Ingavi is one of twenty provinces in the Bolivian La Paz department and is located in the western part of the department. The province bears its current name after the place Ingaví (also: Ingavi ), where the battle of Ingavi took place in 1841 , with which the independence of Bolivia from Peru was secured.
location
The province is located in the central part of the Bolivian Altiplano on the Río Desaguadero and borders in the north on Lake Titicaca , in the west on the Republic of Peru , in the southwest on the province of José Manuel Pando , in the south on the province of Pacajes , in the southeast on the province of Aroma , to the east to the province of Murillo , and to the northeast to the province of Los Andes .
The province extends between about 16 ° 23 'and 17 ° 06' south latitude and 68 ° 11 'and 69 ° 20' west longitude, it measures from north to south up to 70 kilometers, from west to east up to 110 kilometers.

The province's literacy rate is 85.7 percent, with 88.1 percent for men and 69.1 percent for women.
The infant mortality rate is 7.7 percent (1992) to 5.7 percent (2001) declined.
77.8 percent of the population speak Spanish , 82.8 percent speak Aymara , and 0.8 percent speak Quechua . (2001)
59.7 percent of the population have no access to electricity , 54.6 percent live without sanitary facilities (2001) .
70.0 percent of households own a radio, 24.7 percent a television, 41.4 percent a bicycle, 0.8 percent a motorcycle, 3.5 percent a car, 3.4 percent a refrigerator, and 4.9 percent a telephone. (2001)
74.1 percent of the population are Catholic , 20.0 percent are Protestant (1992) .
