The municipality of Taraco is a district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The Municipio Taraco is one of seven Municipios of the Ingavi Province and is located in the northern part of the province. It borders on Lake Titicaca to the north and west , and the Municipio Tiahuanacu to the south and east .
The municipality has 18 localities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is Taraco with 238 inhabitants in the northern part of the municipality. The largest town in the municipality is Ñachoca with 1,168 inhabitants. ( 2012 census )
geography
The municipality of Taraco is located at an average altitude of 3900 m on the Bolivian Altiplano between the Andean mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east.
The mean average temperature in the area of Lake Titicaca is around 9 ° C, the annual precipitation is 500 to 600 mm (see Juliaca climate diagram). The region has a distinct daytime climate, the monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 7 ° C in July and 12 ° C in December. The monthly precipitation is between under 10 mm in the months May to August and just over 100 mm from January to February.
