Coacollo is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Coacollo is the largest village in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Taraco in the province of Ingavi . The village is located on the Taraco Peninsula in the southern part of Lake Titicaca at an altitude of 3846 m on the edge of the one to two kilometers wide coastal plain. 30 kilometers further southeast is Tiahuanaco , the internationally known world cultural heritage site - ruins from the pre-Inca culture .

Coacollo lies between the Andean mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental and the Cordillera Oriental . The climate is typical of the time of day , in which the mean temperature differences during the day are more pronounced than during the year.

From La Paz, the paved road Ruta 2 leads for thirteen kilometers to El Alto , from there Ruta 1 another 63 kilometers in a westerly direction to Tiwanacu . From there a dirt road leads via Pillapi San Agustín and Taraco in a north-westerly direction to Coacollo .

Due to the historical development, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population, in the municipality of Tiahuanacu 97.1 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
