Ulrich Teichler

Ulrich Teichler (born July 23, 1942 in Stettin ) is a German sociologist and university researcher .

Live and act

Ulrich Teichler graduated from the Ratsgymnasium Minden , studied sociology at the Free University of Berlin , passed the examination to become a qualified sociologist and then worked as a research assistant at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development in Berlin. At the University of Bremen , he was with a thesis on education and status distribution in Japan Dr. phil. PhD .

From 1978 to 2013 Ulrich Teichler was professor for vocational and university research at the University of Kassel . He has taught at universities in Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Japan, the USA and Argentina. Teichler held professorships at Northwestern University , the College of Europe and Hiroshima University . In his research, he is primarily concerned with the topics of university and career, the structure of higher education as well as international cooperation and mobility.

In addition to his scientific work, Ulrich Teichler is also active in scientific policy committees. Since 1988 he has been a member of the Board of Governors of the Consortium of Higher Education Researchers (CHER), where he was secretary from 1988/1989 and chairman from 1992 to 1998. From 1992 to 2011, Teichler was director of the International Center for University Research (INCHER-Kassel). From 1997 to 2001 he was President of the European Higher Education Society (EAIR). He is a member of the Academia Europaea and the International Academy of Education .

Teichler is editor, co-editor or member of the advisory board of several German and international journals such as " Das Hochschulwesen ", "Hochschulausbildung", "European Journal of Education", "American Journal of Education", "South African Journal of Higher Education" and "Asia".

Ulrich Teichler is married to Yoko Teichler-Urata. They have two sons.
