Guaqui is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The town of Guaqui is the central place of the canton Guaqui in the district of the same name ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Guaqui and is located in the province of Ingavi at an altitude of 3842  m on Lake Titicaca . Almost two kilometers northwest of Guaqui on the lakeshore is Puerto Guaqui , the most important Bolivian port on Lake Titicaca and in the southern section of the lake " Wiñaymarka ".

Guaqui is located between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental and the Cordillera Oriental in the Andean dry climate of the Altiplano and has been affected by significant water level fluctuations in the lake over the past three millennia. The climate is a typical time of day climate in which the temperature differences during the day are more pronounced than during the year.

Guaqui is located 85 kilometers by road west of the capital of the department, La Paz .

From La Paz the paved road Ruta 2 leads thirteen kilometers west to El Alto , from there Ruta 1 over 72 kilometers southwest via Laja and Tiawanacu on to Guaqui.
