Wiñaymarka qucha ( Quechua ; Spanish : Lago Huiñaymarca ) is the name for the southern section of Lake Titicaca in Bolivia and Peru .

The Wiñaymarka qucha is connected to the northern part of Lake Titicaca by an 800 m wide waterway, the Strait of Tiquina .
It borders in the west on the Peruvian region of Puno , in the north on the Bolivian province of Manco Kapac , in the northeast on the province of Omasuyos , in the east on the province of Los Andes and in the south on the province of Ingavi . Notable landmarks are the island of Suriqui and the Taraco Peninsula .
Lake level fluctuations
The lake level of the Wiñaymarka Lake was subject to strong fluctuations in historical times, at times it was up to 18 meters below the current water level. Since this part of Lake Titicaca is only a few places deeper than 20 meters today, this means that Lake Wiñaymarka was almost completely dried out at that time. It then consisted of only about 15 km long lake basins, of which at most one was connected to the rest of the lake via the Strait of Tiquina. From studies of the Chiripa culture it can be concluded that the low water levels of Lake Wiñaymarka for the period 1000 to 800 BC. BC, 450 to 250 BC 100 to 300 AD, and 1200 to 1350 AD can be assumed.

Larger towns on Lake Wiñaymarka are Yunguyo and Zepita on the Peruvian side , Huarina , Puerto Pérez , Puerto Guaqui and Desaguadero on the Bolivian side .
