Desaguadero is a country town in the La Paz department , part of which is located in the South American Andean state of Bolivia and part of it in neighboring Peru .
Location in the vicinity
Desaguadero is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Desaguadero in the province of Ingavi . The city is located at an altitude of 3827 m in the northern part of the Bolivian Altiplano plateau on the border between Bolivia and Peru. The city is divided into a Bolivian and a Peruvian half by the Río Desaguadero , border river and the only outflow of Lake Titicaca , with the Bolivian Desaguadero east of the Desaguadero outflow.

Desaguadero is located between the Andean mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental and the Cordillera Oriental . The climate is a typical time of day climate in which the temperature differences during the day are more pronounced than during the year.
The annual average temperature is almost 8 ° C (see climate diagram Desaguadero), the monthly values fluctuate only slightly between 7 ° C in June / July and 9 ° C from November to March. Transport network
Desaguadero is located 109 kilometers by road west of La Paz , the capital of the department.
From La Paz the paved road Ruta 2 leads thirteen kilometers west to El Alto , from there Ruta 1 over 96 kilometers southwest via Laja , Tiawanacu and Guaqui to Desaguadero .
In 1880 Desaguadero was the first Bolivian city next to Puerto Pérez to be connected to La Paz by a telegraph line.
Desaguadero is an important stopover on the interoceanic axis between the Pacific and the Atlantic , from here the connection runs to Puerto Suárez in the southeastern Bolivian lowlands on the border with Brazil .
Until the 1980s, vehicles from the Peruvian to the Bolivian bank were still transported by boat over the Río Desaguadero , today an international bridge connects the divided border town.

Due to the historical population structure, the region has a significant proportion of Aymara population, in the Municipio Desaguadero 84.8 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
