The archaeological site of Chiripa is located on Lake Titicaca in Bolivia , 15 km east of the village of Chiripa on the Taraco peninsula .

From around 1000 BC A settlement of the Tiahuanaco culture was located here until 1100 AD . The focal point was a large temple with numerous tombs, which was built in three sections.

First excavations took place in the 1940s. They were deepened 50 years later in the "Taraco Archeological Project" of the University of California at Berkeley under the direction of Christine Hastorf .
