The municipality of Guaqui is a district in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of Guaqui is one of seven municipalities in the province of Ingavi and is located in the north-western part of the province. It borders the Municipio Desaguadero to the west, the Municipio Jesús de Machaca to the south, the Municipio Taraco to the southeast , the Municipio Tiahuanacu to the east , and Lake Titicaca to the north .

The municipality has 19 localities ( localidades ), the administrative seat of the municipality is Guaqui with 768 inhabitants in the central part of the municipality. The largest town in the municipality is Puerto Guaqui with 1,238 inhabitants. ( 2012 census )

geography

The municipality of Guaqui is located southeast of Lake Titicaca between the Andean mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental and the Cordillera Oriental in the Andean dry climate of the Altiplano and has been affected by significant water level fluctuations in the lake over the past three millennia.

The climate is typical of the time of day , in which the temperature differences in the mean course of the day are more pronounced than in the course of the year.
