Viacha is a medium- sized town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
location
Viacha is the center of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Viacha in the province of Ingavi on the right bank of the Río Pallina . The village is located at an altitude of 3870 m on the Bolivian Altiplano , 70 km southeast of Lake Titicaca .
geography
Viacha is located on the Bolivian plateau between the Andes mountain ranges of the Cordillera Occidental in the west and the Cordillera Central in the east. The region's climate is typical of the time of day , with average temperatures fluctuating more during the day than during the year.
The mean annual temperature of Viacha is just under 9 ° C, the annual precipitation is around 600 mm (see Viacha climate diagram). The monthly average temperatures fluctuate only slightly between 6 ° C in July and 10 ° C from November to February. The months May to August are arid with monthly precipitation of less than 15 mm, in the southern summer months of January and February monthly precipitation of more than 100 mm is measured.
Transport network
Viacha is 35 kilometers by road southwest of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.
From La Paz, the Ruta 19 trunk road leads 35 kilometers south-west to Viacha and from there to Charaña on the Peruvian border. Viacha is the end point of several railway lines since the 25 km long, steep route to La Paz was shut down. There are connections from Chile with the previously continued Arica – La Paz railway , on a route that leads to Peru and with a railway line from Lake Titicaca to Oruro from there to Antofagasta in Chile .
