Charaña is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Charaña is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Charaña in the province of Pacajes . The village is located on the Bolivian Altiplano on the Chilean border at an altitude of 4067  m on one of the tributaries of the Río Mauri , which flows into the Río Desaguadero . Ninety kilometers southeast of Charaña rises the Nevado Sajama , at 6,542 m the highest mountain in Bolivia.
