The Ruta 24 is a national road in the South American Andean state of Bolivia, which has only been planned for long distances .

Routing

The road has a planned length of 260 kilometers and is planned to lead from the lowlands of the Beni department to the edge of the mountainous areas in the Cochabamba department .

The route of the Ruta 24 begins in the south at the town of Villa Tunari . It branches off from Ruta 4 and leads on its first section along the Voranden chain of the Cordillera de Mosetes in a north-westerly direction to Puerto Patiño and from there to the colonization areas between the Río Isiboro and the Río Secure .

This area belongs to the Isiboro-Secure national park and indigenous reserve, the so-called "TIPNIS region" ( Territorio Indígena y Parque Nacional Isiboro Sécure ), which are covered in their central areas by almost untouched tropical forest and by the traditionally living peoples of the Yuracaré, Moxeño and Chimán inhabited and administered. They fear that the further construction of the route would create a gateway for settlers, illegal loggers and oil companies into their protected territories and have stopped the road project for the foreseeable future with a worldwide protest march in autumn 2011.

The northern part of Ruta 24 begins seven kilometers southwest of San Ignacio de Moxos on Ruta 3 and leads about 70 kilometers south via San José del Kavitu , where Ruta 24 first comes to an end about 30 kilometers north of the Río Secure.

Most of the previous sections of the road in the north near San Ignacio de Moxos and in the south near Villa Tunari are still unpaved. However (as of 2018) the first 50 kilometers from the south are asphalted.

history

The Ruta 24 was declared part of the Bolivian national road network " Red Vial Fundamental " by decree DS 26.996 of April 17, 2003 .
