Villa Tunari is a country town in the department of Cochabamba in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
Villa Tunari is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Villa Tunari in the province of Chapare . The city is located at the confluence of the Río Espíritu Santo and Río San Mateo to the Río Chapare at an altitude of 310 m at the foot of the eastern Andes chains between the cities of Cochabamba and Santa Cruz .

Villa Tunari is located in the Bolivian lowlands on the northern edge of the Cordillera Oriental . The climate is tropical with a pronounced time of day climate .

Villa Tunari is located at a distance of 161 kilometers by road northeast of Cochabamba , the capital of the department.
Villa Tunari by the 1657 km long leads highway Ruta 4 , which crosses the country from west to east. It leads from Tambo Quemado on the Chilean border via Cochabamba and Sacaba to Villa Tunari and on via Santa Cruz to Puerto Suárez on the Brazilian border. The road is paved for the distance of 913 km from Tambo Quemado via Santa Cruz to Pailón and then has an unpaved surface.
On December 23, 2003, 50 inhabitants of the city died when the Río Chapare overflowed its banks, destroyed the connecting bridge over the Chapare at Villa Tunari and flooded large areas of the province.

Due to the historical population distribution, the region has a significant proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Villa Tunari 83.5 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
