San Ignacio de Moxos (short: San Ignacio ) is a small town in the Beni department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
San Ignacio is the central place of the canton of San Ignacio and the seat of the administration of the province of Moxos . The city is located in the Bolivian lowlands at an altitude of 165 m on the Laguna Isirere , a 19.3 km² lake in the west of the city.

San Ignacio is located in the Moxos plain , with over 100,000 km² one of the largest wetlands on earth. The predominant form of vegetation in the San Ignacio region is the tropical savannah .
The annual average temperature for the region is 26 ° C (see Trinidad climate diagram), with the monthly average temperatures between June / July at a good 23 ° C and October / December at just under 28 ° C only slightly different. The annual precipitation is almost 2000 mm and is therefore more than twice as high as the precipitation in Central Europe. Maximum values of around 300 mm in the months of December to February contrast with low values of around 50 mm in July / August.

San Ignacio is 94 kilometers by road southwest of Trinidad , the capital of the department.
In San Ignacio the two highways Ruta 3 and Ruta 24 meet. The Ruta 3 leads from La Paz via Sapecho and Yucumo to San Ignacio and on to Trinidad. The Ruta 24 coming from the south west to San Ignacio and connects the city with the 260 km away Villa Tunari , from which road connections to the cities of Cochabamba and Santa Cruz exist.
From San Ignacio to the north, a road connection leads to Santa Ana del Yacuma, about 160 kilometers north, and from there to Exaltación .
