Sapecho is a town in the La Paz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Sapecho is located in the Sud Yungas province and is a central place in the canton of Sapecho and the second largest town in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Palos Blancos . The village is located at an altitude of 414  m on the right bank of the Alto Beni just below the mouth of the Río Boopi .

Sapecho is located in the Bolivian Yungas east of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Real . The region has a distinctive time-of-day climate in which the mean temperature fluctuations during the day are more pronounced than during the year.

The mean average temperature in the region is 28 ° C, the annual precipitation is almost 1600 mm (see climate diagram Palos Blancos). The monthly average temperatures vary only slightly between 25 ° C in June / July and 29 ° C from October to March. The monthly precipitation is less than 50 mm in the months of June and July and more than 200 mm from December to February.

Transport network

Sapecho is located at a distance of 229 kilometers by road northeast of La Paz , the capital of the department of the same name.

From La Paz, the Ruta 3 trunk road leads via Coroico and Caranavi in a north-easterly direction to the bridge over the Río Beni, from there five kilometers further upstream to Sapecho. The Ruta 3 reaches the Río Mamoré after 372 kilometers near Trinidad .

Sapecho has a bus stop with a connection to La Paz. There are many shared taxis (called Litoral or Trufi), the journey takes about six hours.

Since a significant part of the region's population immigrated from the Altiplano in the 1960s and 1970s , the region has a significant proportion of the Aymara population; in the Municipio Palos Blancos, 33.8 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .

economy

There are two companies in Sapecho, Ecotop and El Ceibo . Ecotop is an agriculture and forestry consultancy with a focus on sustainable cultivation systems. El Ceibo is a Fair Trade certified cocoa production cooperative that has a processing plant in Sapecho.
