The Ruta 5 is a national road in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Routing
The road has a length of 898 km and crosses the Bolivian Altiplano from northeast to southwest, from the Cordillera Oriental to the Cordillera Occidental . The road crosses the departments of Santa Cruz , Cochabamba , Chuquisaca and Potosí . It begins in the northeast as a junction from Ruta 7 at La Palizada and ends in the southwest at the village of Hito LX on the Chilean border.
The first about 80 kilometers from La Palizada are paved (as of 2018), the next 540 kilometers to Uyuni are completely paved. The remaining 260 km southwest of Uyuni are again unpaved.

The Ruta 5 was declared part of the Bolivian national road network " Red Vial Fundamental " by decree 25.134 of August 31, 1998 .
