Saipina is a country town in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Saipina is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Saipina in the province of Manuel María Caballero . The city is located at an altitude of 1365  m in a fertile basin of the Río Comarapa , which flows from Comarapa below Saipina into the Río Mizque .

The municipality of Saipina is located on the southeastern edge of the Cordillera Oriental mountain range , which forms the transition from the Bolivian lowlands to the high mountain ranges of the Andes. The climate is semarid and a typical daytime climate , in which the mean temperature differences between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons.

The annual average temperature is about 26 ° C and fluctuates only slightly between 23 ° C in July and 28 ° C from November to January (see Saipina climate diagram). The annual precipitation is a little more than 500 mm and only reaches monthly values ​​of just over 100 mm in the summer months in January and February; the dry season with values ​​well below 30 mm from April to October is unfavorably long for agricultural cultivation.

Transport network

Saipina lies at a distance of 245 kilometers by road west of Santa Cruz , the capital of the department.

From Santa Cruz, the paved road Ruta 9 leads over 14 kilometers in a south-westerly direction to the junction of Ruta 7 at El Carmen . The Ruta 7 leads via the cities of La Angostura and Samaipata to Comarapa and on to Cochabamba . About 22 kilometers before Comarapa, an east-west connecting road branches off to Aiquile , which reaches Saipina via the village of Pulquina on a winding 26 kilometers .

Due to the historical population distribution, the region has a certain proportion of Quechua population, in the municipality of Saipina 34.2 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
