Climate diagram Samaipata |
Samaipata (also Samaypata ) is a country town in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia . The city of Samaipata was founded in 1623 . The name Samaipata comes from the Quechua language and means rest in the heights , the inhabitants call themselves " Samaipateños ".
Location in the vicinity
Samaipata is the seat of the administration of the province Florida and a central place in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Samaipata . The city is located in the eastern Andean Mountains at an altitude of 1646 m in the foothills of the Cordillera Oriental , on the upper reaches of the Río Achira , which flows over the Río Laja to the Río Piraí and is thus directly connected to the Amazon basin .
geography
Samipata is located in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental in the west and the Bolivian lowlands in the east. Because of the sheltered valley location, the climate is mild and balanced all year round, not as hot and humid as in the nearby lowlands. During the winter months, cold winds ( surazos ) can come from the Argentine pampas . These winds cause sub-freezing temperatures, a problem for agricultural crops. In summer the days are warm and the nights cold.
The mean average temperature of the region is 18 ° C (see climate diagram Samaipata) and fluctuates only slightly between 15 ° C in June / July and almost 20 ° C in December and January. The annual precipitation is around 750 mm, with a weak dry season from May to September with monthly precipitation below 35 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 110 to 120 mm monthly precipitation.
Transport network
Samaipata is located at a distance of 119 kilometers by road southwest of the department capital Santa Cruz .
By Samaipata the 488 km long runs highway Ruta 7 , which connects Santa Cruz with Cochabamba. The paved Ruta 7 leads via La Guardia and La Angostura to Saimapata and then on via Mairana and Comarapa to Cochabamba.
population
The population of the village has almost doubled over the past two decades:
year | Residents | source |
---|---|---|
1992 | 2 235 | census |
2001 | 2,926 | census |
2012 | 4 398 | census |
Due to the population distribution that has evolved over time, the region still has a certain proportion of Quechua population; in the municipality of Samaipata, 15.5 percent of the population speak the Quechua language; about 5 percent of the population are non-Bolivians from about thirty to forty different nationalities.
tourism
The greatest attraction of Samaipata is the Fuerte de Samaipata , located about 6 kilometers to the east on a mountain and protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site . Samaipata is also the starting point for tours to the Amboró National Park in the north .
Samaipata has had a town partnership with Saalfeld / Saale since 1996 .
