The Río Piraí (also: Río Piray ) is a right tributary of the Río Yapacaní in the Bolivian part of the Amazon basin .
course
The Piraí rises at an altitude of 1642 m near the city of Samaipata and takes its name from the confluence of the Río Bermejo and Río Piojeras .
In its course it crosses the province of Andrés Ibáñez , where the metropolis of Santa Cruz de la Sierra lies on its right bank . Further downstream, the Río Piraí forms the border between the province of Sara and the province of Ignacio Warnes and further on between Sara and the province of Obispo Santistevan .
The name Piraí consists of the two Guaraní words pira (= "fish") and y (= "water").
