Sara is a province in the northwestern part of the Santa Cruz department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state Bolivia .

The province has existed since September 25, 1883 and is named after the river " Sara " ( still water ), which got its name from the Chané people who originally lived here . Today the " Sara " bears the name " Guapay ", which was given to it by the Chiriguanos people , or " Río Grande " which comes from the Spanish colonists.

location

The province is one of fifteen provinces in the Santa Cruz Department. It is bordered by the Ichilo Province to the west, the Andrés Ibáñez Province to the south, the Ignacio Warnes Province to the southeast , and the Obispo Santistevan Province to the northeast .

It extends between 16 ° 20 'and 17 ° 40' southern latitude and 63 ° 11 'and 64 ° 05' western longitude, its length from northwest to southeast is 210 kilometers, its maximum width is 50 kilometers. The border of the province to the two neighboring provinces in the east and northeast is the Río Piraí . It has a size of 6886 square kilometers.
