Florida is a province in the western part of the Santa Cruz Department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state Bolivia .

location

The province is bordered by the Ichilo Province to the north, the Manuel María Caballero Province to the northwest, the Vallegrande Province to the southwest, the Cordillera Province to the southeast , and the Andrés Ibáñez Province to the east .

population

The population of the province of Florida has increased by almost half in the past two decades:

  • 1992 : 22,750 inhabitants ( census )
  • 2001 : 27,447 inhabitants (census)
  • 2012 : 32,842 inhabitants (census)

The capital of the province is the city of Samaipata with 4,398 inhabitants ( 2012 census ), the proportion of the urban population in the province was 25.5 percent in 1992. 41.1 percent of the population are younger than 15 years (1992).

98.9 percent of the population speak Spanish , 10.9 percent Quechua , 1.0 percent Aymara , and 0.1 percent Guaraní (1992).

60.7 percent of the workforce work in agriculture , 0.2 percent in mining , 5.1 percent in industry , 34.0 percent in the service sector (2001).

90.1 percent of the population are Catholic , 8.2 percent are Protestant (1992).

65.6 percent of the population have no access to electricity , 68.3 percent live without sanitary facilities (1992).
