The Municipio Mairana is a district in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The Municipio Mairana is one of four Municipios of the Province of Florida and comprises the central areas of the province. It borders the Ichilo Province to the north, the Municipio Pampa Grande to the west , and the Municipio Samaipata to the east .

The municipality extends between about 17 ° 46 'and 18 ° 11' south latitude and 63 ° 52 'and 64 ° 08' west longitude, its extension from west to east is up to 20 kilometers and from north to south up to 40 kilometers .

The municipality comprises 25 municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is the city of Mairana with 6,756 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the southern part of the district.

The Municipio Mairana is located in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental in the west and the Bolivian lowlands in the east. The climate in the protected valleys is mild and balanced all year round, not as hot and humid as in the nearby lowlands.

The mean average temperature of the region is 21 ° C (see Mairana climate diagram) and fluctuates only slightly between 18 ° C in June / July and just under 23 ° C from November to January. The annual precipitation is about 750 mm, with a weak dry season from May to September with monthly precipitation below 30 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 110 to 120 mm monthly precipitation.
