Mairana is a country town in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Mairana is the central place of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Mairana in the province of Florida . The city is located in the eastern Andes Mountains at an altitude of 1330  m in an elongated valley between the foothills of the Cordillera Oriental , on the right bank of the Río Quirusillas .

Mairana lies in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central in the west and the Bolivian lowlands in the east. Because of the sheltered valley location, the climate is less hot and humid than in the nearby lowlands.

The mean average temperature of the region is 21 ° C (see Mairana climate diagram) and fluctuates only slightly between 18 ° C in July and just under 23 ° C from November to March. The annual precipitation is about 750 mm, with a weak dry season from May to July with monthly precipitation below 30 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 110 to 120 mm monthly precipitation.

Transport network

Mairana is located at a distance of 136 kilometers by road southwest of the department capital Santa Cruz .

By Mairana the 488 km long leads highway Ruta 7 , Santa Cruz with Cochabamba connects. The paved route 7 leads via La Guardia , La Angostura and Samaipata to Mairana and then on via Comarapa to Cochabamba.

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region still has a certain proportion of Quechua population, in the Municipio Mairana 24.3 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
