The Municipio Pampa Grande (also Pampagrande ) is a district in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The Municipio Pampa Grande is one of four Municipios of the Province of Florida and comprises the western and northwestern areas of the province. It borders the province of Ichilo to the north, the province of Manuel María Caballero to the west, the province of Vallegrande to the southwest , the municipality of Quirusillas to the southeast , and the municipality of Mairana to the east .

The municipality extends between about 17 ° 46 'and 18 ° 25' south latitude and 63 ° 55 'and 64 ° 19' west longitude, its expansion from west to east is up to 35 kilometers and from north to south up to 55 kilometers .

The municipality comprises 33 municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is the town of Pampa Grande with 770 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the central eastern part of the district. Other larger towns are the city of Los Negros with 3,572 inhabitants and Mataral with 821 inhabitants.

The Municipio Pampa Grande is located in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental in the west and the Bolivian lowlands in the east. The climate in the protected valleys is mild and balanced all year round, not as hot and humid as in the nearby lowlands.

The mean average temperature of the region is 18 ° C (see climate diagram Samaipata) and fluctuates only slightly between 15 ° C in June / July and just under 20 ° C from November to January. The annual precipitation is about 750 mm, with a weak dry season from May to September with monthly precipitation below 30 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 110-120 mm monthly precipitation.
