The municipality of Samaipata is a district in the Santa Cruz department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality Samaipata is one of four municipalities in the province of Florida and comprises the eastern areas of the province. It borders on the province of Ichilo to the north, the Municipio Mairana to the northwest , the Municipio Pampa Grande to the west, the Municipio Quirusillas to the southwest, the Cordillera province to the south , and the Andrés Ibáñez province to the east .

The municipality extends between about 17 ° 54 'and 18 ° 26' south latitude and 63 ° 29 'and 64 ° 00' west longitude, its extension from west to east is up to 40 kilometers and from north to south up to 50 kilometers .

The municipality comprises 45 municipalities ( localidades ), the central place of the municipality is the city of Samaipata with 4,398 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) on the western edge of the district.

The municipality of Samaipata is located in the transition area between the Andean mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental in the west and the Bolivian lowlands in the east. The climate in the protected valleys is mild and balanced all year round, not as hot and humid as in the nearby lowlands.

The mean average temperature of the region is 18 ° C (see climate diagram Samaipata) and fluctuates only slightly between 15 ° C in June / July and almost 20 ° C in December and January. The municipality of Samaipata is divided into the following two cantons ( cantones ):
