San Juan del Rosario is a town in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

San Juan del Rosario is a central place in the canton of San Juan del Rosario in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Samaipata in the province of Florida . The village is located in the eastern Andean Mountains at an altitude of 1519  m in the foothills of the Cordillera Oriental on the upper reaches of the Río Misca , a tributary to the Río Piraí , which rises near the city of Samaipata . The village lies on a plain that measures about 2 km in north-south and east-west direction, the ridges around the village reach heights of up to 1850 m.

San Juan del Rosario lies in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental in the west and the Bolivian lowlands in the east. Because of the sheltered valley location, the climate is mild and balanced all year round, not as hot and humid as in the nearby lowlands.

The mean average temperature of the region is 18 ° C (see climate diagram Samaipata) and fluctuates only slightly between 15 ° C in June / July and almost 20 ° C in December and January. The annual precipitation is around 750 mm, with a weak dry season from May to September with monthly precipitation below 35 mm, and a humidity period from December to February with 110 to 120 mm monthly precipitation.

Santa Cruz of the 488 km long leads highway Ruta 7 about La Guardia and La Angostura to Samaipata and then continue on Mairana and Comarapa to Cochabamba , the capital of neighboring departments. From the southern edge of the city of Samaipata a dirt road leads south and after 22 kilometers reaches San Juan del Rosario , the road then continues south to Postrervalle in the province of Vallegrande .
