Title and texts

Amy Lee said in an interview with Australia MTV 's The Lair that she never wrote a song with Ben Moody. She always started on her own, presented her designs to Moody and then made adjustments. Most of the songs from Traps reflect Amy's feelings and thoughts.

“Going Under” was the last song written for Fallen . It reflects the physically and emotionally destructive relationship Lee has just gone through. The song should be the first single. However, since " Bring Me to Life " was part of the Daredevil soundtrack , this title was preferred as a single.

Amy Lee and Ben Moody at a concert in Barcelona (2003)

The idea of “Bring Me to Life” is based on Lee meeting a friend of a friend in a restaurant. She felt unhappy and abused in their relationship but tried to hide it. After a few words he suddenly asked: “Are you happy?”. She felt her heart beat and said yes, believing that he was a clairvoyant. However, she later stated that she wrote the song about her old friend and now husband Josh Hartzler.

Lee's sister was fascinated by pop stars like Christina Aguilera or Britney Spears , which was the inspiration for the song "Everybody's Fool". As an eight-year-old, she dressed like those superstars, which annoyed Amy.

"My Immortal" was written by Ben Moody and is based on one of his short stories. It's about a mind that won't let go. In the booklet he dedicated the song to his grandfather.

"Haunted" is also based on a story by Moody, but the lyrics were written by Amy Lee. The title is about a little girl who follows her red ball into a dilapidated villa from which there is suddenly no exit.

"Hello", like "Like You" from The Open Door album , was written in memory of Lee's late sister.

"Tourniquet" was originally written by Rocky Gray for the band Soul Embraced and is about suicide .
