The Municipio Portachuelo is a district in the Santa Cruz Department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The municipality of Portachuelo is one of three counties ( Bolivian : Municipios ) in the province of Sara . It borders the municipality of Santa Rosa del Sara to the north, the province of Ichilo to the west and southwest , the province of Andrés Ibáñez and the municipality of Colpa Bélgica to the southeast , the province of Ignacio Warnes to the east, and the province of Obispo Santistevan to the northeast . It extends about 45 kilometers in north-south and 35 kilometers in east-west direction.
The central place of the municipality is the city of Portachuelo with 14,091 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the center of the municipality.
geography
The municipality of Portachuelo is located in a tropical, humid climate in front of the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental . The region was covered by subtropical rainforest before colonization , but is now mostly cultivated land .
The mean average temperature of the region is just under 24 ° C (see Warnes climate diagram), the monthly values fluctuate between 20 ° C in June / July and 26 ° C from November to February. The annual precipitation is about 1300 mm, the monthly precipitation is productive and lies between 35 mm in August and 200 mm in January.

The population density of the municipality in the 2012 census was 16.7 inhabitants / km², the proportion of the urban population was 78.8 percent. The life expectancy of newborns in 2001 was 69.4 years, and infant mortality had fallen from 5.0 percent ( 1992 ) to 4.4 percent ( 2001 ).
The literacy rate among those over 6 years of age has risen from 85.8 percent ( 1992 ) to 91.1 percent. 99.3 percent of the population speak Spanish , 6.2 percent speak Quechua , 0.5 percent Guaraní , and 0.4 percent Aymara .
