The Municipio Portachuelo is a district in the Santa Cruz Department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of Portachuelo is one of three counties ( Bolivian : Municipios ) in the province of Sara . It borders the municipality of Santa Rosa del Sara to the north, the province of Ichilo to the west and southwest , the province of Andrés Ibáñez and the municipality of Colpa Bélgica to the southeast , the province of Ignacio Warnes to the east, and the province of Obispo Santistevan to the northeast . It extends about 45 kilometers in north-south and 35 kilometers in east-west direction.

The central place of the municipality is the city of Portachuelo with 14,091 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) in the center of the municipality.

The municipality of Portachuelo is located in a tropical, humid climate in front of the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental . The region was covered by subtropical rainforest before colonization , but is now mostly cultivated land .
