The Amboró National Park ( Parque Nacional y Area Natural de Manejo Integrado Amboró ) is a Bolivian national park with an area of ​​4,425 km². The national park was founded in 1973 as the "Tcnl. Germán Busch nature reserve" and has been classified as a national park since 1984. The area of ​​the national park was expanded in 1991 and 1995. There is a 40 m waterfall in the park.

The national park is located in the west of the Santa Cruz department 40 km west of the city of Santa Cruz . In addition to the northeastern part of the Cordillera Oriental, it includes the sub- ranges of the Serranía Tambora , the Sierra Matacarú and the Sierra Los Volcanes with its numerous river valleys and is thus in the easternmost foothills of the entire Andes. It stretches between 300 and 3,500 meters above sea level and has an annual rainfall of between 1,400 and 4,000 mm. Tourist entrances to the park exist from the north via Buena Vista and from the south via Samaipata .

Flora and fauna

The park has a very diverse flora and fauna because the three large ecoregions Amazonia , Andes and Chaco meet at this point . There are about 2,659 species of plants, including 500 species of orchids , socratea exorrhiza , precatoria Euterpe , Ceroxylon , American mahogany , Podocarpus , Juglans boliviana and tree ferns , 830 species of birds including Red-fronted Macaw , military macaw , Andean cock-of-the-rock and Hornhokko ( Pauxi unicornis ), 127 species of mammals including Jaguar , Puma , Ocelot , Spectacled , armadillos , tapir , giant anteater , spider monkeys and 43 species of bats, 135 reptiles - and 173 amphibian species . There are also 109 species of fish; however, in recent years fish diversity has decreased dramatically.
