The municipality of Saipina is a district in the Santa Cruz department in the lowlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of Saipina is one of two counties ( Bolivian : Municipios ) in the province of Manuel María Caballero . It borders the Departamento Cochabamba to the west and southwest and the Municipio Comarapa to the east and north .

The municipality is between 17 ° 52 'and 18 ° 12' south latitude and 64 ° 30 'and 64 ° 50' west longitude, it extends about 20 kilometers in north-south and also 20 kilometers in east-west direction. The central place of the municipality is the city of Saipina with 4,090 inhabitants ( 2012 census ) on the southwestern edge of the municipality.

The municipality of Saipina is located on the southeastern edge of the Cordillera Oriental mountain range , which forms the transition from the Bolivian lowlands to the high mountain ranges of the Andes. The climate is semarid and a typical daytime climate , in which the mean temperature differences between day and night are more pronounced than between the seasons.

The level of literacy among those over the age of 6 has risen from 81.0 percent ( 1992 ) to 87.0 percent. 96.7 percent of the population speak Spanish , 34.2 percent speak Quechua , and 2.3 percent speak Aymara .
