El Carmen was a small town in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
El Carmen was the central place of the canton El Carmen in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) La Guardia in the province of Andrés Ibáñez . The city is located on the right bank of the Río Piraí at an altitude of 449 m . The canton of El Carmen borders in the northeast on the outskirts of the metropolis of Santa Cruz and in the southwest on the canton Km 12 . With effect from the 2012 census, El Carmen is no longer listed as an independent city, but has become part of the city of La Guardia .

El Carmen is located in the tropical, humid climate on the eastern edge of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental . The region was covered by subtropical rainforest before colonization , but is now mostly cultivated land .
