Ticatica (also: Tica Tica ) is a town in the Potosí department in the highlands of the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Ticatica is the central place of the canton Ticatica in the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) Tomave in the province Antonio Quijarro . The settlement is located at an altitude of 3609  m on the Río Tumusla , one of the tributaries to the Río Pilcomayo .

Ticatica is located on the Altiplano in central Bolivia between the Cordillera de Chichas in the southwest and the Cordillera Central in the northeast.

The mean average temperature of the region is around 11 ° C (see Potosí climate diagram), the monthly average temperatures vary between 8 ° C in June / July and a good 13 ° C from November to March. The annual precipitation is only about 350 mm, with a pronounced dry season from April to October with monthly precipitation between 0 and 15 mm, and a short humidity period from December to February with monthly precipitation of a good 70 mm.

From Potosí, the Ruta 5 trunk road leads via the villages of Porco , Chaquilla and Yura to Ticatica and on via Pulacayo to Uyuni at the Salar de Uyuni salt lake .

Due to the historically grown population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Quechua population, in the Municipio Tomave 92.0 percent of the population speak the Quechua language.
