The Río Secure (also Río Sécure or Río Securé ) is a river in the lowlands of the South American landlocked state Bolivia .
course
The Río Secure has its origin at the foot of the eastern Andes chain of the Serranía de Mosetenes at the confluence of the Río Cascarrillas and Río Nutusama at an altitude of 310 m in the Beni department . From this point the Río Secure flows for the first 60 km in a south-easterly direction in the direction of the Serranía de Mosetenes to the confluence of the Río Iruplumo and then turns to the northeast. Shortly before its mouth, the river leaves the province of Moxos and enters the province of Marbán . After a total of 380 kilometers, the river flows into the Río Isiboro at a height of 165 m . The following 105 km long section of the river from the junction of Río Secure and Río Isiboro to the confluence with the Río Mamoré is mostly attributed to the Isiboro, but on some maps this section is labeled "Río Secure" or even "Río Isiboro / Secure". Therefore, the total length of the Río Secure is often given as almost 500 kilometers.
Nature reserve
The Río Secure together with the Río Nutusama represents the northern border of the TIPNIS nature reserve , between the Serranía de Mosetenes mountain range in the west and the confluence of the Río Sécure with the Isiboro in the northeast.
Bifurcation
Via a bifurcation , the Río Secure is also connected to the Río Tijamuchi , a left tributary of the Río Mamoré, which flows into the Mamoré further downstream than the Río Isiboro. This bifurcation is located at flow 159 kilometers and a height of 207 m at the geo-coordinates 15 ° 52 '47 " S , 65 ° 51' 31" W . When the water level is high, the Río Secure branches out here in the flat terrain: part of the water flows in the river bed of the Secure in an easterly to southeastern direction to the Río Isiboro; Another part of the water branches off in a north-easterly direction and reaches the Río Tijamuchi downstream.
