The Río Turbio is a river in the South American landlocked state of Bolivia and is located in the southwestern part of the district ( Bolivian : Municipio ) San Ignacio de Moxos in the province of Moxos in the lowland department of Beni .

course

The Río Turbio has its origin in the eastern Voranden chain of the Serranía Eva Eva at an altitude of 406  m in the Beni department , just one kilometer southeast of the source of the Río Apere , which flows from here in the opposite direction to the north and there into the Río Mamoré flows out. The Río Turbio flows from its source in a southerly direction and takes up a lot of debris on the short distance of 21 kilometers due to its gradient, which it releases at its confluence with the Río Secure .

Nature reserve

The Río Turbio flows from the north into the nature reserve TIPNIS , the northern border of which is formed by the Río Secure together with the Río Nutusama , between the Serranía de Mosetenes mountain range in the west and the confluence of the Río Sécure with the Río Isiboro in the northeast. The region around the Río Turbio is difficult to access and almost deserted.
