The Municipio Ayata is a district in the La Paz department in the Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

The municipality of Ayata is one of three municipalities in the province of Muñecas and is located in the northern part of the province. It borders on the municipality of Chuma in the west , on the province of Larecaja in the southeast , on the municipality of Aucapata in the east , and on the province of Bautista Saavedra in the north .

The municipality has 65 localities ( localidades ). The administrative seat of the municipality is Ayata with 294 inhabitants in the southern part of the municipality, the largest town is Mollo Grande with 872 inhabitants. ( 2012 census )

The municipality of Ayata is located at an average altitude of 4000  m east of Lake Titicaca and is part of the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Central . The region's climate is typical of the time of day , with temperatures differing more during the day than during the year.

The mean annual temperature of the region is 9.4 ° C, the monthly values ​​fluctuate between 7 ° C in June / July and just under 11 ° C in November / December (see Ayata climate diagram). The long-term mean annual precipitation is 800 mm, and while the winter months of June and July are arid with less than 10 mm monthly precipitation, the summer months from December to March reach values ​​of 100 to 140 mm.
