Tommi Miettinen (born December 3, 1975 in Kuopio ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who was active in the course of his career for KalPa Kuopio , TPS Turku and Ilves Tampere in the SM-liiga and for Brynäs IF and Luleå HF in the Elitserien . Since retiring in 2013, he has been working as a trainer. His brothers Jami and Tatu are also professional ice hockey players.

Career

Tommi Miettinen began his career as an ice hockey player in his hometown in the youth department of KalPa Kuopio , for whose professional team he was active for the first time from 1992 to 1995 in the SM-liiga , the highest Finnish league. During this period he was also selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 1994 in the tenth round as a total of 236th player by the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim , for which he never played. Instead, the center signed a contract with TPS Turku for the 1995/96 season . With the team he was runner-up in 1996 and 1997, and he won the Finnish championship title with TPS in the 1998/99 season . At the European level, he and his team also won the European Hockey League in 1997 .

From 1999 to 2002 Miettinen played for Ilves Tampere in the SM-liiga. He then spent three and a half years at Brynäs IF in the Swedish Elitserien and a half years in the SCL Tigers in the Swiss National League A . At the Tigers, he was particularly convincing in the 2006/07 season when he scored 33 scorer points in 44 games, including nine goals. From 2007 to 2009 the former international was on the ice for Luleå HF in the Swedish Elitserien. Since the 2009/10 season , the Finn has been back in the SM-liiga for his hometown club KalPa Kuopio, where he was team captain between 2011 and 2013.

After the 2012/13 season he ended his career and became an assistant coach at KalPa.

International

For Finland , Miettinen took part in the junior division of the U18 European Junior Championships in 1993 and the U20 World Junior Championships in 1994 and 1995 . In the senior sector, he was in his country's 2003 squad for the Euro Hockey Tour .
