The Veyle is a French river in the Ain department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region . It has its origins in Lake Étang Magnenet , east of the town of Chalamont , drains generally in a north-westerly direction, flows just west of the town of Bourg-en-Bresse and flows into the Saône after 67 kilometers, opposite Mâcon , as a left tributary .

In the lower reaches, the river divides into an arm that runs further south, which is known as the Petite Veyle . After about 4 kilometers it joins the main river again at Saint-Jean-sur-Veyle , only to separate again after a few hundred meters. The current arm of the river is also called Petite Veyle and flows independently into the Saône after about 8 kilometers. The estuary is about 1.5 kilometers south of the mouth of the main river Veyle.
