Quintus Lutatius Cerco
Quintus Lutatius Cerco († 236 BC ) was a Roman plebeian from the gens of the Lutatians who had risen to the nobility . He dressed in 241 BC BC with his counterpart Aulus Manlius Torquatus Atticus the consulate in the Roman Republic .
Life
The consul from the previous year, Gaius Lutatius Catulus , was the older brother of Quintus Lutatius Cerco and had negotiated a provisional peace treaty with Rome with the defeated Puni after the victorious battle of the Aegatic Islands . The preliminary treaty was only accepted by the Romans after additional conditions were added . For this purpose, the Senate had sent a commission of ten to Carthage , which, under the leadership of the consul Quintus Lutatius Cerco, brought the peace negotiations to a conclusion and ended the first Punic war .
Shortly afterwards, in the year of office 241 BC BC, there was an armed uprising of the Faliskers . The resistance of the tribe of Sabine origin was broken by the two consuls with brute force within just six days. Quintus Lutatius Cerco vowed after the triumph that was held to dedicate a temple to the Roman goddess Iuturna .
With the victory over Carthage, Sicily became the first Roman province . Quintus Lutatius Cerco was entrusted with the task of arranging the situation there, presumably to set up an administration. In 236 BC BC, in which he had started the censorship , he died in office.
