The Klostermarienberg raft was from 1238 to 1789 a monastery in Sierck-les-Bains , a municipality in the department of Moselle in France . In the course of its history it was initially a monastery of the Cistercians , from 1415 the Carthusians , from 1432 the Canons and from 1640 again the Carthusians

history

Duke Matthew II of Lorraine and his wife Katharina von Limburg founded the Cistercian priory Marienfloss ( Rivulus Beatae Mariae in Latin , "Marienfluss") in Montenach , today a neighboring community of Sierck, in 1238 . The Cistercian women moved to the Freistroff Monastery in 1414 .

On the initiative of Margarete von der Pfalz , Carthusians settled in Marienfloss. The Carthusian community included two important spiritual figures, Adolf von Essen and his student Dominikus von Prussia , who are considered to be the creators of the rosary (and especially of the rosary secrets). The Carthusians only stayed until Margarete's death († 1434), when they settled in the Rettel Monastery .

After they moved out, the monastery housed a community of canons until it was destroyed in 1640, and then again Carthusian monks from Rettel until the monastery church was destroyed in 1792 by the French Revolution . The remains were used from 1963 to 1982 to rebuild a chapel (in the former sacristy), which has been a pilgrimage destination ever since . The street “Rue de Marienfloss” on the “Ruisseau de Montenach” is reminiscent of the former monastery.
