Arnas is a French municipality with 3778 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Rhône in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Arnas belongs to the arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saône and is part of the canton of Gleizé . The inhabitants are called Arnassien (ne) s .
geography
Arnas is located about 35 kilometers north of Lyon , on the northern outskirts of Villefranche-sur-Saône . The Saône forms the eastern municipal boundary. Arnas is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-Georges-de-Reneins in the north, Fareins in the east, Beauregard in the southeast, Villefranche-sur-Saône and Gleizé in the south, Denicé in the west and southwest and Saint-Julien in the west.
The A6 autoroute runs through the municipality . Arnas is located in the Bourgogne wine region , where mainly the Crémant de Bourgogne is produced.
history
Originally the place was called Saint-Saturnin d'Arnas and was on a Roman road. The church was built in 1020. In 1117 the Péloges monastery was founded.
