Lucenay is a commune with 1,808 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Rhône region of France in the region Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Villefranche-sur-Saône and the canton of Anse .
location
Lucenay is located in the Beaujolais wine region , about 20 kilometers northwest of Lyon . The Saône tributary Azergues flows through the east of the municipality of Lucenay .
history
The village of Lucenay ( Luccennacum ) belonged to the county of Lyon , which had existed since the 6th century . This is indicated by a written source in a Lyon church, which is attributed to Count Artaud I , who died in 960. Limestone quarries dominated the area around Lucenay until the middle of the 20th century. After their abandonment, viticulture became the most important source of income.

With 1808 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) Lucenay is one of the medium-sized communities in the Rhône department. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (in 1901 there were still 834 inhabitants), there was again a significant population growth since the beginning of the 1950s.
Economy and Infrastructure
The most important branches of industry in Lucenay are viticulture and the tourism that is partly associated with it. The quality wines produced here are allowed to carry the designations of origin ( AOC ) Bourgogne Grand Ordinaire , Bourgogne Aligoté , Bourgogne Passetoutgrain or Crémant de Bourgogne . Other agricultural products include fruits, vegetables and grains.
The A6 autoroute ( Paris - Lyon ) runs through the municipality of Lucenay . Anse train station, five kilometers away, is on the Paris – Marseille railway line .
