Saint-Jean-des-Vignes is located about 17 kilometers north-northwest of Lyon and about twelve kilometers south-southwest of Villefranche-sur-Saône in the Bourgogne wine region . Saint-Jean-des-Vignes is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Morancé in the north, Chazay-d'Azergues in the east, Lozanne in the south, Belmont-d'Azergues in the west and south-west and Charnay in the west and north-west.
