French cities and regions of art and history

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

City and region of art and history (French: ville et pays d'art et d'histoire ) is a French award. It has been awarded by the French Ministry of Culture since 1985 to French cities or regions that pursue a policy of revitalizing and enhancing the value of their cultural heritage and architecture . The award is the successor to the title “City of Art” (French: ville d'art ), which was abolished in 2005.

This commitment is regulated by a convention established by the Office for Architecture and Cultural Heritage (French: direction de l'architecture et du patrimoine (DAP) ), the regional administrations for cultural affairs (French: direction régionale des affaires culturelles (DRAC) ) and the administrative units concerned . This convention includes financial and technical support from the ministry, but also the obligation to employ only qualified personnel approved by the ministry.

The National Council of Cities and Regions of Art and History, founded in 1995, takes part in the development and general direction of the policy of this association and gives advice on how to apply for the award, but can also reject an award that has already been granted because of non-compliance with what is stipulated by the convention Take back the frame. The regional administrations for cultural affairs ensure the implementation of the association's policy at regional level. As the preferred contact for the cities and regions for the specifications and the follow-up of the dossiers, they watch over the correctness of the project and its integration into the cultural landscape of the region.

In 2006 approx. 115 cities and regions were part of this association (2005: approx. 130).
