I have a big name is a German television advice show that has been broadcast since 1977. The broadcast date on SWR television is on Sundays at 6.15 p.m. It is repeated there on Mondays at 3:45 a.m. and on hr television from around 0:45 a.m. to 1:30 a.m.

procedure

In each program, two guests, each related to or closely related to a famous person from the past, appear one after the other. The big name is therefore not necessarily given. Sometimes the guest is initially seen as a silhouette because of their striking similarity or media awareness . At the beginning, accompanied by a piece of music from the time where the person you are looking for lived, their name is displayed. TV viewers can also guess. The three-person advice team receives a hint in the form of a quote that is related to the person; the guest is also asked whether they look similar to the ancestor they are looking for. The group of even prominent / educated people asks him questions that can be answered with yes or no. It is often interesting how the guessing team “gets lost” or “tangled up”. The pilot - a co-moderator - then intervened to help (until 2019). A simultaneous interpreter may briefly be seen during the broadcast. Once the puzzle has been solved, the guide will present a rough résumé, supplemented by a film. The piece of music is now also named. Then the moderator has a shorter conversation with the guest about the person they are looking for.

Charisma

The broadcast was shown for the first time on April 24, 1977 in the third television program of the then Süddeutscher Rundfunk .

After the merger of Süddeutschem Rundfunk and Südwestfunk to form Südwestrundfunk in 1998, the quiz is usually broadcast on Sundays at 6.15 p.m. on the newly designed SWR television . Repetitions also ran initially on the first TV program ( ARD ), today only in a few third programs, for example on hr-fernsehen on Sunday evening at 11 p.m.

Moderation

Initially, the Swiss author Hans Gmür ran 106 editions from 1977 to 1993. He was replaced by Hansjürgen Rosenbauer , who directed the show until 1998. From 1998 to 2019 Wieland Backes was director of the show for 465 episodes. As the second personality in this last episode moderated by him, he was to be guessed. The descendant on December 22, 2019 was Eva Haupenthal, the older of his two daughters. Both daughters and the son took part in the conversation that followed, led by Wolfgang Binder.

Julia Westlake (first broadcast on January 5, 2020), who previously belonged to the advice team, took over the moderation . . When Wieland Backes switched to Julia Westlake, the activity of the pilot also ended. The guessing hints now come directly from the moderator. Until then, the journalists Anja Höfer , Clemens Bratzler , Wolfgang Binder and Inka Schneider acted as guides . Occasionally Thilo Koch , Hans-Georg Soeffner and Gerd Appenzeller were also pilots.

Others

It is rare to guess someone repeatedly. This happened in 1997 and 2012 with Wilderich von Droste zu Hülshoff , a great-great-great-nephew of Annette von Droste-Hülshoff .
