Wilderich Freiherr von Droste zu Hülshoff (born April 24, 1948 in Adenau ) is a German lawyer , author and board member.

Wilderich Richard Fidelis Hubertus Freiherr von Droste zu Hülshoff is the son of Mariano Freiherr von Droste zu Hülshoff and his wife Sybille, nee. Iltgen, and grew up in Adenau. He is a grandson of the lawyer and author Heinrich von Droste zu Hülshoff and the younger brother of Bernd von Droste zu Hülshoff . From 1974 to 2005 he lived in Kirchzarten , since then at the Villa Küchlin country estate in Horben , where his family operates agriculture and forestry (including Schauinsland Lamas ) and the Baron Droste Hülshoff distillery . He has been married to the orchestra conductor and artist Hortense von Gelmini since 1978 and has a son with her.
Education and professional career
After graduating from high school in Oberlahnstein , he completed an internship at Deutsche Bank in Koblenz and began studying forest science at the Forestry Faculty of the Georg-August University in Göttingen in Hann. Münden . Then he studied law in Münster and in Freiburg im Breisgau , where he met his future wife in 1969. He completed his legal clerkship at the Constance Regional Court - during this time he lived in the royal house of his great-great-great-great-aunt Annette von Droste-Hülshoff and at Meersburg Castle - and completed his legal training in 1975 with the second state examination .
In 1975/1976, as a research assistant at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg , Droste zu Hülshoff started on the suggestion of Alexander Hollerbach with a (incomplete) dissertation on the legal philosopher Clemens-August von Droste zu Hülshoff , the results of this work he later published in his books Annette von Droste-Hülshoff in the tension field of her family and 900 years Droste zu Hülshoff . At the same time, he worked as a lawyer , an activity that he has been doing again since October 2013.
From 1976 Droste zu Hülshoff worked as an administrative lawyer in the former Baden-Württemberg State Trade Office, the Ortenaukreis District Office and from 1980 to 2013 in the Freiburg Regional Council . Initially a consultant for public building law - in this area he also worked as a lecturer at the University of Kehl - he became a consultant to District President Norbert Nothhelfer . In 1982/83 he worked out the basics of the environmental strategy Green Charter for the CDU Südbaden and initiated its cultural charter in 1984 , which was implemented in Baden-Württemberg.
As part of its European policy , the state government of Baden-Württemberg set up a "Grenzlandreferat" in 1986, which was expanded to become a department for cross-border cooperation and European affairs . Droste zu Hülshoff was its deputy head from 1986 and its head from 1999 to 2013. The facility was located in the regional council of Freiburg. It coordinates with the Alsace , the northern cantons of Switzerland , Vorarlberg and Liechtenstein , the cross-border cooperation in the Upper Rhine, Upper Rhine and Lake Constance on regional-state level. She manages and promotes with her partners u. a. the trinational metropolitan region of the Upper Rhine with its Eurodistricts, Eurodistrict Strasbourg-Ortenau , Eurodistrict PAMINA , Eurodistrict Region Freiburg / Center et Sud Alsace and Trinationaler Eurodistrict Basel as well as the International Lake Constance Conference . For the above In the border regions of Baden-Württemberg, she is also responsible for the approval of EGTCs and the funding of projects within the framework of European territorial cooperation ( Interreg ). Cross-border cooperation in these regions is considered a model throughout Europe. Droste zu Hülshoff was u. a. Chairman of the Interreg Upper Rhine working group, the coordination committee of the Upper Rhine Conference and headed the World Cultural Landscape Bodensee project group of the International Lake Constance Conference in 2004/2004 ; he was also involved in the Danube strategy for Baden-Württemberg .
Droste zu Hülshoff is the author of legal and administrative-political writings as well as historical and cultural-political books to which his lecturing activity relates.
Voluntary work
Droste zu Hülshoff has been a member of the advisory board since 1994 and has been an honorary sole director of the non-profit cultural foundation Libertas per Veritatem , founded in Freiburg in 1994, since 1999, as the successor to the founder Silvia Berk , which promotes art and culture in connection with the entire work of his wife. He was a laudator several times at the awarding of the European Culture Awards by the Pro Europa Foundation , in 2012 for the Tri-national Environmental Center and in 2014 for André-Paul Weber . He is u. a. Member of the Malteser Aid Service and the Annette-von-Droste-Gesellschaft e. V.
