André-Paul Weber (born November 26, 1927 in Mulhouse ; † July 3, 2016 ) was an Alsatian regional politician , company boss and writer .

Life

Born as the son of the company's managing director Paul Weber and Marie-Anne Uhl, he attended the Lyceum in Mulhouse when he was forcibly conscripted by the German Wehrmacht to the flak and then to the Reich Labor Service in 1943 , before he joined the French liberation movement La Liberation . He then obtained a law license and studied economic policy at the University of Strasbourg . There he was president of the foyer of the Catholic student body, worked as a journalist and founded the theater group La Polyandre . In 1950 he founded the Academie des marches de l'Est in Strasbourg . He was married to Charlotte Elisabeth Berger and had four children.

Professional activity

In 1951 Weber founded the Cranvrest company in Mulhouse , was then briefly a member of the parliament of Joseph Wasmer before becoming Secretary General of the Ecole de Filature, de Tissage et de Bonneterie (which later became the University of Upper Alsace ) in Mulhouse in 1954 . In 1957 he joined the Sappel company , which u. a. Manufactured water meters, established its headquarters in St. Louis and was its President and General Manager until his retirement in 1987. In the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Mulhouse, he headed the Committee for Ports and Transport, which enabled the establishment of the Rhine port of Huningue . From 1987 to 1998 Weber was President of the Alsavia airline . He held other positions in regional banks and regional and cross-border business organizations. Political activity

From 1965 to 2001 Weber was president of the “Syndicat intercommunal pour la promotion économique et social de la région des Trois Frontières” (SIPES). From 1967 to 1992 he represented the canton of Huningue in the General Council (France) of the Haut-Rhin département , of which he was vice-president from 1972 to 1992. In 1986 he was elected to the Alsatian Regional Council and headed its Commission for European Affairs. He also headed its delegation, which in Russia managed to obtain the list of Alsatian conscripts who were conscripted during World War II ( called malgré-nous in France ) and who were buried in Tambov .

Cross-border cooperation

Weber was vice-president and co-founder of the Regio du Haut-Rhin, which was established for cross-border cooperation, and is considered the "father" of the Palmrain Bridge between Weil am Rhein and Huningue. As chairman of the responsible committee of the regional council of Alsace, he was a member of political bodies for cross-border cooperation on the Upper Rhine, High Rhine and Lake Constance . He was co-founder of the European Cultural Forum in Strasbourg and Vice-President of the European Meeting Center in Lucelle (Haut-Rhin) .
