Charly is a French municipality with 4541 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Métropole de Lyon in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Lyon and the canton of Irigny . Its inhabitants are called Charlirot (te) s . Charly belonged to the canton of Irigny until 2015 .

Charly is located about 15 kilometers south-southwest of Lyon . Charly is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Irigny in the north and north-east, Vernaison in the east, Millery in the south and south-west and Vourles in the west and north-west.
