Fontaines-sur-Saône is a French municipality with 7069 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the Métropole de Lyon in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . Fontaines-sur-Saône belongs to the arrondissement of Lyon and until 2015 to the canton of Neuville-sur-Saône . The inhabitants are called Fontainois .

Fontaines-sur-Saône is located fifteen kilometers north of Lyon city center on the eastern bank of the Saône . Fontaines-sur-Saône is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Fontaines-Saint-Martin in the north, Sathonay-Village in the east, Sathonay-Camp in the southeast, Caluire-et-Cuire in the south, and Collonges-au-Mont-d'Or in the west Rochetaillée-sur-Saône in the north-west.
Part of the Saône island Île Roy is in the municipality.
