Montagny is a French commune in the department of Rhône in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It belongs to the arrondissement of Lyon and is part of the canton of Saint-Symphorien-d'Ozon (until 2015: canton of Givors ). Montagny has 2959 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).

Montagny is located about 16 kilometers south-southwest of Lyon on the Garon River . Montagny is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Vourles in the north and northeast, Millery in the east, Grigny in the southeast, Givors in the south, Beauvallon in the southwest and Taluyers in the northwest.

Montagny is part of the Coteaux du Lyonnais wine region .
