Genas is a French municipality with 12,734 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Rhône in the region of Auvergne Rhône-Alpes . It is located in the arrondissement of Lyon and is part of the canton of Genas . The inhabitants are called Genassiens .

Genas is located about 15 kilometers east of Lyon in the Pays du Velin and is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Meyzieu in the north, Pusignan in the northeast and east, Colombier-Saugnieu in the east and southeast, Saint-Bonnet-de-Mure in the south, and Saint-Priest in the Southwest and Chassieu to the west.
